Brief Icon once again has taken the casually look to the next level with their Motorhead boots. As mentioned before, we are all daily riders who ride our bikes for pleasure/recreational purposes. The race inspired boots by Alpinestars, Sidi and the like are not always the best choice for our style of riding. This is where Icon, only in their second year, has created gear especially targeted to the street rider. Overview This is a great boot with a plethora of comfort. I especially like the casual look on and off the bike. The two buckle system is great for taking off the boot where you don't have to mess with any laces. The mid high boot makes it great for everyday riding and for the occasional spirited ride. Icon is known for their smaller sizing, but I found this boot to be close with my regular shoe size. Now, I wear a 13 in this boot but could stand maybe 1/2 size up. But the lack of the half size isn't significant enough to warrant the boot uncomfortable. Details The construction is well made and thought through with full grain leather construction. The left foot has a shifter pad to prevent premature wear along with added full grain leather heel guards. At first the boot is stiff as with any brand new boot, of course, the steel shank makes it a little stiff too. But after a few miles and some walking the boots, they are starting to loosen up and feeling more like a regular shoe. I did have to buy new sole inserts as the originals feel apart. The original soles have a little gel pad underneath the heel portion. After walking around at the Monterey Laguna Seca track all day the gel pad came away from the sole. I went to a local supermarket and found some nice Dr. Scholes inserts and what a difference. I walked around the whole track the next day and never once did my feet hurt from the boot. I was a little tired, but that is expected when you do that much walking. I am a little disappointed that my left boot around the shifting area is beginning to peel. In my opinion, the shifting pads could have been mounted or extended closer to the inside toe thus alleviating this problem. With all of the choices of street riding boots the Icon Motorhead is the best bang for the buck hands down. Particularly, those who are looking for a casual riding boot with the comfort to walk around in all day.
