Overview

The Fieldsheer Mach 2 is the Cadillac of Fieldsheer's mesh jacket line. The Leather/Mesh combination provides not only a free airflow design but offers maximum protection at abrasion points. With top of the line materials and construction, this jacket is a must-have for those desiring the most protection they can get from a mesh jacket.

Details

As safety gear has evolved over the years, the need for hot weather gear has become readily apparent. In terms of protection, I have yet to see a mesh jacket that compares to this one. Compared to the Joe Rocket line, this one just *feels* solid. The mesh fabric is much more tightly woven and does not suffer from snags as much as the Joe Rocket mesh. Where most mesh jackets come with foam armor, the Fieldsheer actually has CE approved armor in the shoulders, elbows, and back; there is even armor in the forearms! The Mach 2 Mesh also features leather in place of the mesh on the shoulders, elbows, stomach, and parts of the back This adds another level of protection, as these are the most common abrasion points.

Where most mesh jackets are one crash wonders, I have to point out that this particular jacket has been crash tested twice. The first instance occurred when the rider lost control at an intersection and fell off. The jacket was virtually unharmed. The second instance was a 25mph lowside that left a tiny rip (about the size of a nickel) in the mesh on one shoulder.

This jacket offers superior protection, but it comes at a price. This jacket is heavy and hot for a mesh jacket. Where I live, the 100+ degree heat summer heat makes this jacket pretty uncomfortable. In that kind of heat, I definitely wouldn't recommend black (which, of course, I have). Cooling may possibly be improved with the introduction of a supplemental cooling product, such as any number of evaporative cooling devices currently available. I will be trying this soon and will update you with the results.

Pros
  • CE armor, including back protector.
  • Leather abrasion points.
  • Liner.

Cons
  • Hot for a mesh product.
  • Heavy.
